Lists
I received tons of positive feedback from my Zombie 13 Halloween playlist. However, some of you were looking for a more well-rounded spooky soundtrack. The people have spoken.
I present to you the Movie Monster playlist. All of the tracks are named for a classic horror film or at the very least after
an iconic movie monster. Put this on your stereo at your Halloween party and your guests will have a fright-filled blast.
Of course it won't hurt to have plenty of alcohol either.

"Abominable Dr. Phibes" - Misfits
You
have to start a playlist off with an intro and this horror punk starter named for Vincent Price's homicidal madman is the
perfect fit. This album also contains "American Psycho", "The Hunger", "This Island Earth", "Day Of The Dead", "Mars Attacks"
and "The Shining" for all you movie buffs.

"Bloodfeast" - Misfits
A
ripping hardcore punk track is the perfect homage to HG Lewis's over-the-top splatter-fest. Every Misfits album is like a
horror movie unto itself. This one also has "Die, Die My Darling" and "Green Hell".

"Creature From The Black Lagoon" - Dave Edmonds
I've
never been able to figure out what Dave Edmunds is. He's either rockabilly or new wave. In any case he's got a song about
the famous lizard from the lake. Also see "Creature From The Black Lagoon" by Wednesday 13's Frankenstein Drag Queens
"Dawn Of The Dead" - Murderdolls
A
rousing track from these punk/glam/horror junkies pays tribute to my favorite zombie film. Also see "Dawn Of The Dead" by
the Misfits.
"Die Monster Die" - Misfits
Die
Monster Die! is loosely based on HP Lovecraft's story The Color Of Out of Space. The song, in turn, is loosely based on the
film. Another album chocked full of horror movie titles. "Kong At The Gates", "The Crawling Eye", "Scream", "Pumpkinhead",
"Them", and "Helena" (based on Boxing Helena) are just a few.
"Earth Vs. Spider" - Michael Graves
The
actual movie is Earth Vs. The Spider, but it has been released under "The Spider" and "Earth Vs. The Giant Spider." This second-era
former Misfits singer has done a nice job of carrying on the horror punk tradition.
"Exorcist" - Possessed
Killer
proto-death metal track about the scariest movie of all time. The song even features the creepy soundtrack music in the introduction.
"Frankenstein" - Edgar Winter
What
could be better than an albino playing a song about the most iconic horror figure? Apparently, the tune was named Frankenstein
because Edgar Winter wanted to make a song showing off all of the things he could do with a Moog synthesizer. Basically it
was just a bunch of parts thrown together like Dr. Frankenstein's monster.
"Freddy Krueger" - S.O.D.
I
can't believe this hardcore/metal crossover classic never made it onto the soundtrack of any Nightmare On Elm Street sequel.
They went with Dokken instead. Now that's really scary.
"F.V.K." - Bad Brains
That's
Fearless Vampire Killers for the uninitiated. Awesome track from these Rastafarian hardcore pioneers.
"Godzilla" - Blue Oyster Cult
The
king of all monsters will destroy everything that gets in the way of the speakers. This live cut is the superior version.
Also see "Biotech Vs. Godzilla" by Sepultura and "Godzilla" by Michael Graves.
"I Was A Teenage Werewolf" - The Cramps
Add
a little psycho-billy to your playlist with this one. Interestingly enough Michael Landon was the teenage werewolf. Shouldn't
it be teenaged werewolf?
"Michael Meyers" - The Meteors
A
rockabilly ode to The Shape. Also see "Halloween" and "Halloween II" by the Misfits "Halloween" by the Dead Kennedys and "Michael"
by Son Of Sam.
"N.O.T.L.D." - Misfits
Are
you sick of the Misfits yet? Me neither. In case you haven't figured it out, those letters stand for Night Of The Living Dead.
I could have put this song on my zombie list but it fits here nicely.
"Phantom Of The Opera" - Iron Maiden
Classic
Maiden track about a classic horror film. Don't you think Nico McBrain looks a little bit like Lon Chaney's title character?
Before I get any angry e-mails, I know Nico doesn't play drums on this record.
"The Satanic Rites Of Drugula" - Electric Wizzard
I
realize the song is "Drugula" not "Dracula" but it's close enough. This track is a gut-wrenching stoner dirge that will have
you thinking you're on drugs or possible a vampire.
"Spider Baby" - Dr. Chud
Surprisingly
good punk anthem from former Graves-era Misfits drummer. As an added bonus his name is Dr. Chud so you can throw the Cannibalistic
Humanoid Underground Dwellers into the mix.
"Teenage Frankenstein" - Alice Cooper
This
song fits here in so many ways. It shares the title of the horror movie, but it was also written as part of the music Alice
Cooper contributed to the Friday The 13th Part VI soundtrack. Also see "Man Behind The Mask", a loving tribute to Jason Voorhees.
Van Helsing's Curse
This
isn't so much of a song as it is an entire album detailing Van Helsing's glorious defeat of Dracula. The spoken word narrative
unfolds between screaming heavy metal versions of spooky classical music pieces. It's nothing short of brilliant and it's
hard to believe it came from Dee Snider's mind. It's the perfect grand finale for a Halloween playlist.
