Let me apologize for the briefness of this report. I'm really busy today and I don't have hours to be my normal witty
and eloquent self. Also, I didn't get to see the score sheet before Nicole turned it in so some of the facts may be less than
factual. So here's my six-pack recollection of the game:
Saturday night, the Ventura Mariners
Killer Bees went down to the 'hood to take on the former "A" squad Bay Harbor Redwings. The game started out pretty tight
with only the refereeing keeping things interesting. Corey Werden opened the scoring with a pretty spinning shot that caught
the goalie by surprise. The Redwings responded with the help of some friendly calls. Not long after, Killian Anderson chipped
a puck up to Jason Hart who skated in and worked his magic. In the second period, Jason was at it again, screaming towards
the net, only this time he zipped a pass over to Shane Heller who banged it home. Shane must have gotten energized because
moments later he was barreling in on goal and scored his second of the game. In the third, Conor Gleason tapped one in over
the goal line. The Mariners would get one more, but for the life of me I can't remember who got it. I seemed to think Corey
shot the puck and then somebody else picked up the rebound. It could have been Brian Zacchia or Maybe Luke Tickle. At that
point in the game the lines were all screwed up. I'm not trying to understate any of the kid's accomplishments, I just can't
recall.
In any case, the boys got a 6-2 win over a quality opponent. They all played great and I
hope they realize they can dominate any team if they skate like they did on Saturday night. Mark Becica was great in net for
the Mariners, stopping 20+ shots and giving his team the momentum they needed to kick some butt. Oops, almost forgot. Hit
of the game and possibly of the season goes to TJ Samuel. On a nice clean check, he literally knocked a kid out. This is not
an exaggeration. The Redwing player was, as far as we can tell, unconscious on the ice. Hopefully he's okay. As an added bonus,
nobody got car-jacked so it's really like getting two wins.
