I know you guys are all wondering where the game report is. Sorry, I had family over on Monday (when I usually write
it) and haven't had a chance. I was actually going to blow it off this week, but then I figured Kim, Toni, and Tanya would
probably beat me up. Next thing you know, it'll be all over YouTube, and I don't want that.
Saturday the
Ventura Mariners Bantam KIller Bees went to the fabulous Pasadena ball room to take on the Maple Leafs. This was never really
much of a game. The Mariners dominated from the first drop of the puck until the final horn. The score sheet credits goalie
Mark Becica with 23 saves, but I don't think he saw that much action. Don't get me wrong: he played great, but there were
ten minute stretches where he didn't see a Maple Leaf jersey within fifty feet of him. That's how much better the Mariners
were. As for the scoring: pay attention, there will be a test on this later.
Birthday boy Conor Gleason
scored the first goal, the eventual game-winner and two more for a 4 goal 2 assist night. Jason Hart had a hat-trick and a
double play-maker. Yes that's right: 3 goals and 6 assists from the mouth that roared. Awesomely-named Brian Zacchia had 2
goals and 3 assists. Patrick Dalton had a helper plus a sweet spin-o-rama goal. And yes he actually scored it, not Shane.
Speaking of which, Mr. Heller scored a goal and added 2 assists. Tom Dobrokhot sent a butterfly from the blue-line that somehow
found the back of the net. Killian Anderson scored the all-important 13th goal and chimed in with an assist. Luke Tickle put
in a strong two-assist performance. Josh Kuchinski and JB Lovelace also had a helper apiece. Blake Burlew and Cameron Torres
didn't make the score sheet, but they both played great on defense. TJ Samuel also didn't factor in the scoring, but his hustle
contributed to the win.
All of this added up to a 13-2 victory for the Mariners. Like I said before,
this wasn't much of a test for the boys, but they got the two points. One of the more interesting things that happened was
when a couple of kids collided and popped off the plexi-glass. I've never seen that in a youth hockey game. Luckily there
was a handsome and witty individual on hand to help put it back in or they would have had to call the game.
That's
it for this week. I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukah. Have a great holiday and we'll see you in
the new year.
Also...
...Gianluca
Allen was the back-up in this game. I don't have anything funny to say about this, which is sad because I'm usually so hilarious.
Medical Report
Niko Utash just can't catch
a break. He was just getting over an illness and starting to get his game on track, when he gets quarantined because of a
family chicken pox outbreak. He had to miss the Pasadena game, but we're all hoping he'll be ready to go after the break.
